 What is Grammar?

2. Parts of Speech

Nouns

"Nouns represent the names of the objects in our surroundings! If it’s something you can see or touch, it’s likely a noun. Nouns can denote people like 'Mom', places such as 'Park', and items including 'Dog' or 'Ball'."

Example:

 "Your name is also a noun! What’s your name? (Your name .) 

Yes, that’s indeed a noun!"

Activity:

 "Let's look at some images. Can you identify and circle the nouns? 

Here’s a picture of a cat, a tree, and a car. 

All of these are nouns because they name specific things!"

Verbs: 

"Verbs are action words, that tell us what someone is doing.

 For instance, 

if you jump, that counts as a verb! Eating is another verb. Verbs act like the actions in our grammar game."

Example: 

" Eating, drinking, writing, listening, speaking etc"

"Currently, you are sitting. 

'Sitting' is a verb!"

Activity:

 "Let’s play a game! I will show you some pictures, and you tell me what the character or animal is doing. If an image depicts a boy running, you would say, 'run.' Can you find the verb?"

Adjectives

 "Adjectives are words that provide more detail about a noun. They modify the noun.

 For example,

 when you see a dog, you might describe it as a 'big dog' or a 'small dog.' 'Big' and 'small' are adjectives."

Example: 

"If I mention 'red apple,' 'red' serves as the adjective because it describes the apple's color."
Activity: "Let’s do some coloring! Here’s a picture of a ball.

 Is it a large ball or a small ball? Color the large ball blue and the small ball red!"

3. Sentence Formation

What is a Sentence?

 "A sentence is a collection of words that conveys a coherent thought. It functions like a brief narrative that communicates something.

 For example, 

The cat is sleeping' is a sentence because it indicates the action of the cat."

Example: 

"If I say 'Sleeping cat is,' is that clear? No! But saying 'The cat is sleeping' makes perfect sense!"

Activity:

 "Let’s help rearrange some mixed-up sentences. If I give you the words 'is,' 'The,' 'happy,' and 'dog,' can you organize them into a proper sentence? Yes, it becomes 'The dog is happy!'"
